Runner’s knee also known as patellofemoral pain syndrome, got its name due to its commonality in runners. Runners knee is caused by friction against the bottom of your thigh bone and occurs when your cartilage has been eroded and irritation is present.

Runners' knee is said to be more common in women than in men. Especially in middle-aged women according to the Harvard Medical School.
